Job summary

American Electric Power is hiring for an entry-level Dispatching role focused on supporting the transmission system. Under supervision, you will monitor system voltages, manage real-time operations with the SCC and neighboring utilities, and assist in switching and tagging for maintenance or construction.

You will maintain logs, operate the SCADA system, and respond to malfunctions. A two-year technical degree or equivalent experience is required, with valid driver's license and 1–2 years of

Qualifications

• Two-year technical degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or related field or equivalent experience.
• 1-2 years in substation operation, protective relaying, or distribution dispatching preferred.
• Valid state driver license with ability to travel as needed.

Responsibilities

• Monitor/regulate system voltage and real/reactive power flows.
• Coordinate real-time operation of AEP transmission system with the SCC and neighboring utilities.
• Coordinate distribution equipment operations inside station fence with regional centers.
• Prepare basic switching orders and safety tagging for maintenance or construction.
• Direct switching operations under emergency conditions to restore service.
• Maintain logs of events and transactions for facilities and equipment.
• Observe and assist in operating the SCADA system and related functions.
• Monitor metering and communications facilities and report malfunctions.
• Watch weather information system for severe weather and notify appropriate personnel.
• Input station entry/exit records accurately.
