Job summary

American Electric Power (AEP) is seeking an Electric System Operator to safely dispatch outages, analyze outage data, and document restoration processes across distribution assets. The role requires precise communication with field crews and maintaining operations under pressure during emergencies.

You will use SCADA and mapping tools, issue switching orders, train junior dispatchers, and collaborate with transmission operations.

Qualifications

• Experience as Electric System Operator or Distribution Dispatcher Sr.
• Successful completion of the SOPD test.
• Good safety record and knowledge of electrical safety procedures.
• Dependability and responsiveness to business needs.
• Excellent attendance and team collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Prioritize routine and emergency work.
• Communicate instructions clearly via radio/phone and written communications.
• Update and maintain mapping systems.
• Work under pressure during critical system conditions.
• Provide training and leadership to dispatchers.
• Produce and issue switching orders for routine/emergency work.
• Operate SCADA during switching procedures.
• Write operational procedures for switching substations and feeders.
• Interface with transmission operations and outage recovery.
• Lead outages recovery and safety planning.
• Overtime flexibility and travel as needed.
