Job summary

The City of San José Police Department is seeking Police Forensic Analyst I/II to support the Real Time Intelligence Center (RTIC). You will collect, analyze, and disseminate real-time data from multiple sources to aid investigations and incident response.

Analysts at this level assist detectives, manage digital evidence, and produce detailed analyses and reports. The role may require non-standard hours and collaboration across multiple city and regional partners.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required for Analyst I/II positions.
• Experience with data analysis and report writing.
• Background check and polygraph required.

Responsibilities

• Provide real-time intelligence support during active police incidents by monitoring CAD, radio, camera systems, ALPR alerts, and other digital platforms.
• Review and analyze video footage, digital media, case files, and records to identify investigative leads, suspects, vehicles, timelines, or patterns.
• Assist detectives and department personnel with evidence and casework support; gather, organize, and analyze data for investigations; prepare detailed case analyses.
• Monitor videos, social media, and camera feeds; complete workups on investigative cases; input, research, and retrieve data; develop suspects for follow ups.
• Maintain, organize, and track digital evidence and related data in evidence management systems per retention standards.
• Produce detailed case analyses, charts, documentation, and reports from RTIC findings.
• Create and maintain RTIC logs, rosters, and statistical tracking tools for operational reporting.
• Collaborate with Patrol, BOI, other SJPD divisions, City departments, and regional partner agencies for joint operations.
• Conduct data queries using law enforcement databases and mapping tools; respond to PRA requests.
• May work non-standard hours including nights, weekends, and holidays.
