Job summary

Maine Department of Transportation seeks a real estate paralegal in Augusta, Maine, to prepare and review title work and to support the Department’s condemnation actions for transportation projects.

The role involves reviewing legal descriptions, coordinating with the Title Office team, and ensuring accuracy of title and mapping documents, with preference for those experienced in real estate transactions and title work.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and 4 years of paralegal experience in a law firm, court, or legal services agency or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Preference given to candidates with real estate transactional experience, title abstracting experience, and ability to read plans.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review title work.
  • Review technical legal descriptions and compare to right‑of‑way maps; incorporate into legal documents for condemnation and property conveyances.
  • Collaborate with Property Office Manager, Chief Surveyor, mappers, and Transportation Counsel to resolve title issues and ensure document accuracy.
  • Provide general real estate paralegal support for the Title Office; supervise and train Title Office paralegals.
