Job description

Venable LLP's Real Estate Finance Group is seeking a midlevel associate with a minimum of three years of experience in a law firm setting to join our practice in the Washington, D.C. or Baltimore office. Our team represents lenders, servicers, borrowers, and government-sponsored enterprises across a broad range of commercial real estate finance transactions. This is an opportunity to work on sophisticated, high-value deals in a collaborative environment alongside experienced practitioners.

In this role, the associate will review, draft, and negotiate loan documents, SNDAs, and subordination and standstill agreements. The role involves analyzing and managing legal due diligence, including complex real estate ownership structures such as organizational documents, ground leases, mezzanine loan documents, and related instruments. The associate will also review and evaluate title, survey, zoning, leases, and legal opinions, and will manage and close complex commercial real estate transactions from origination through funding. As deal volume and complexity require, the associate will train and supervise junior associates and paralegals.

The ideal candidate will have experience with multifamily lenders and/or syndicated credit facilities, as well as transactions involving multifamily housing, affordable housing, and/or hotels. Familiarity with agency lending programs and government-sponsored enterprise requirements is a plus. We are particularly interested in candidates whose goal is to be comfortable first-chairing transactions and managing deal teams independently, and who have an interest in mentoring and developing junior team members.

Candidates must hold a Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school and be admitted to, and in good standing with, the relevant jurisdiction's bar. The successful candidate will possess excellent oral and written communication skills, strong attention to detail, superior organizational abilities, and an outstanding academic record.
