Job summary

CalPortland is seeking a Ready-Mix Driver for the South San Francisco, CA plant to transport freshly mixed concrete and perform routine safety inspections. The role requires a valid CDL A/B with airbrakes and tank endorsement, a clean driving record, and a DOT medical certificate.

This is a union position with Local 853 and a contractual benefits package. Flexibility in hours, including nights and weekends, and strong customer service skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Must have current Commercial Class A or B driver’s license with airbrakes and tank endorsement.
• Safe driving record with DMV H-6 printout and limited moving violations.
• Must have a current DOT Medical Certificate.
• Ability to read a map and understand verbal and GPS route instructions.
• Must be familiar with slumps and work in variable weather.

Responsibilities

• Conduct daily pre-trip/post-trip vehicle inspections.
• Deliver ready-mix concrete to various job sites.
• Operate a multi-axle mixer truck safely and legally.
• Clean the vehicle and remove concrete buildup from exterior parts.
• Work according to customer demands and communicate with personnel.
• Adhere to safety regulations and report incidents promptly.
• Attend safety meetings as scheduled.

The Ready-Mix Driver will be responsible for all duties of the position, including the transporting of freshly mixed concrete from the batch plant to the job site in a safe manner. This individual will be responsible for making normal operating adjustments to the equipment and material being hauled. We are seeking a candidate with a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and great customer service skills. These positions will be for either the South San Francisco plant or the Bode San Francisco plant locations.

This is a union position for Local 853 with a contractual benefits package.

Compensation

$25/hourly - Probationary pay; $42.78-$53.48/hourly - Post probationary period pay

Responsibilities

• Conduct daily pre-trip/post-trip vehicle inspections
• Deliver ready-mix concrete to various job sites
• Operate a multi-axle mixer truck safely, obeying all traffic laws
• Clean and wash vehicle to include the removal of concrete buildup on all exterior parts of the mixer
• Must be willing to work according to customer demands
• Operate a radio to communicate with company personnel
• Adhere to all safety regulations including company policies, state, and federal regulations
• Responsible for reporting all incidents/injuries to management as soon as they occur
• Attend safety meetings as scheduled by management

Education

Requirements/Qualifications

• Must have currentCommercial Class A or B driver’s license with airbrakes and tank endorsement
• Safe driving record (will have to provide DMV H-6 printout) - no serious moving violations within the past 36 months; no more than two moving violations within the past 24 months
• Must have a current Department of Transportation (DOT) Medical Certificate
• Ability to read a map and understand verbal and GPS driving route instructions
• Must have familiarity with slumps
• Good attendance and punctuality a must
• Ability to work in extremes of hot and cold weather
• Must have the physical ability to: climb, stoop, bend, squat, frequently lift extension chutes (up to 60 lbs.), stretch, drive/sit and shift gears
• Adhere to all safety regulations including company policies, State, and Federal regulations
• Must be able to work a flexible schedule with flexible hours, hours vary; overtime work, weekends and nights, may be required

Preferred:

• Experience in ready-mix or heavy construction industries
• 2+ years of commercial driving experience

Conditions of Employment

Successful candidate must submit to a post-offer pre-employment physical examination, drug/alcohol screen, and background check. Some positions require Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) registration/clearance as well as ongoing alcohol and drug testing.
