Job description

Salary: £57,528 - £64,750 per annum (exclusive of London weighting)

The Federated Data Platform (FDP) is a major NHS transformation programme that enables organisations to use data and technology to improve patient care, operational performance and productivity across health and care systems.

As a Senior Project Manager, you will lead complex projects supporting the implementation and adoption of FDP capabilities across the NHS. You will manage project plans, risks, dependencies, resources and stakeholder engagement, ensuring delivery aligns with programme objectives, governance requirements and NHS priorities.

Working with NHS England teams, Integrated Care Boards, NHS Trusts, suppliers and delivery partners, you will coordinate activity across workstreams and collaborate with Product, Technical, Clinical, Operational, AI and Delivery teams to achieve successful outcomes.

You will establish effective governance and reporting arrangements, advise senior stakeholders, and proactively manage risks and issues. The role also involves promoting best practice in project management, continuous improvement and benefits realisation.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced project professional who thrives in complex environments, excels at stakeholder management and is passionate about digital transformation. The successful candidate will help drive the FDP programme and contribute to improved outcomes for patients and healthcare organisations across England.

  • Lead the delivery of complex projects and workstreams across the Federated Data Platform programme, ensuring successful implementation and achievement of strategic objectives.
  • Develop and maintain project plans, governance arrangements and delivery roadmaps, managing risks, issues, dependencies and resources to ensure successful outcomes.
  • Work collaboratively with national, regional and local stakeholders, including NHS Trusts, Integrated Care Boards, suppliers and delivery partners, to drive programme adoption and delivery.
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams spanning Product, Technical, Clinical, Operational, AI, Demand and Delivery, and Transforming Operational Delivery (TOD) functions to deliver integrated solutions.
  • Provide high-quality reporting, assurance and recommendations to senior leaders and programme boards, supporting informed decision-making and programme governance.
  • Drive benefits realisation and continuous improvement, ensuring FDP initiatives deliver measurable improvements in patient care, operational performance, productivity and system efficiency.
  • Champion best practice in project and programme management, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration and delivery excellence across the FDP programme.

NHS England has a wide range of statutory functions, responsibilities and regulatory powers. These are focused on supporting the wider NHS to deliver high quality care, as well as doing those things that are best done once for the whole NHS.

Our staff bring expertise across clinical, operational, commissioning, technology, data science, cyber security, software engineering, education, and commercial specialisms — enabling us to design and deliver high-quality NHS services.

In March 2025,the Government announcedthat NHS England and the Department of Health and Social Care will increasingly merge functions, ultimately leading to NHS England being fully integrated into the department.

If you currently work within the NHS and if successful at interview, we will initiate an Inter Authority Transfer (IAT) via the Electronic Staff Record (ESR).This retrieves key data from your current or previous NHS employer to support onboarding, including competency status, Continuous Service Dates (CSD), and annual leave entitlement. You may opt out at any stage of the process.

Colleagues with a contractual office base are expected to spend, on average, at least 40% of their time working in our offices.

Staff recruited from outside the NHS will usually be appointed at the bottom of the pay band.

We cannot offer visa sponsorship for any vacancies.
