Job summary

Abingdon & Witney College’s Construction Centre in Abingdon is seeking a highly motivated Senior Workshop Technician (Carpentry) to support high-quality practical learning and the smooth day-to-day operation of our workshops.

You will lead as the technical expert, assist with demonstrations and training, manage tools and stock, ensure safety, and contribute to a Disability Confident environment on campus. This is a full-time on-site role at Abingdon Campus.

Responsibilities

• Act as the lead technical specialist within the workshop, supporting teaching staff with practical delivery, materials and equipment selection.
• Support and supervise students in developing their practical skills, ensuring a safe and engaging learning environment.
• Plan and deliver technical demonstrations, inductions and equipment training for students and staff.
• Take responsibility for the day‑to‑day operation of the workshop, including maintaining high standards of organisation and housekeeping.
• Ensure full compliance with health and safety legislation, including risk assessments, COSHH and safe systems of work.
• Manage tools, equipment and stock, including ordering materials, liaising with suppliers and conducting regular stock audits.
• Assist with equipment maintenance, fault finding and arranging servicing where necessary.
