Job summary

South Eastern Regional College is recruiting a Technician in Carpentry & Joinery for Downpatrick Campus on a full-time, permanent basis. The role delivers hands-on technical support to lecturers and courses in the Carpentry & Joinery curriculum and helps manage workshop activities and safety standards.

The ideal candidate will hold a Level 3+ apprenticeship in Carpentry & Joinery, have 3+ years in the field, and at least 1 year operating woodworking machines.

Qualifications

• Has completed a Level 3 or above apprenticeship in Carpentry & Joinery with certified documentation.
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience working in the Carpentry & Joinery industry.
• Minimum of 1 year experience using woodworking machines in a workshop environment.
• Demonstrate knowledge of health and safety in a construction environment.
• Demonstrate effective organisational skills.
• Demonstrate effective interpersonal and communications skills, both written and oral.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical support and assistance to lecturers/courses in Carpentry & Joinery.
• Assist with workshop activities and use of woodworking machines.
• Support the delivery of the curriculum through practical workshop supervision.

JOB PURPOSE

Reporting to the Head of School the post-holder will be responsible for providing technical support and assistance to lecturers/courses in the relevant curriculum area.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

• Have completed a Level 3 or above apprenticeship in Carpentry & Joinery with certified documentation
• Have a minimum of 3 years’ experience working in the Carpentry & Joinery industry
• Have a minimum of 1 years’ experience using woodworking machines in a workshop environment.
• Demonstrate knowledge of health and safety in a construction environment
• Demonstrate effective organisational skills
• Demonstrate effective interpersonal and communications skills, both written and oral
• Demonstrate competence in the use of Microsoft Office package.
