Job summary

Sika Corporation is seeking a Technician to provide technical support for developing and maintaining advanced chemical formulations for self-level underlayment (SLU) in construction projects. You will perform tests, prepare formulations, and document results with traceability, collaborating with scientists and engineers.

Ideal candidates have a chemistry-related degree and at least 3 years of lab experience with materials testing and coatings, with a willingness to travel to U.S.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or degree in chemistry or related sciences.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience with materials testing and coatings in a lab.
  • Willing to learn from scientists and senior teammates.
  • Must follow standard test protocols (e.g., ASTM).
  • Able to lift bags and pails and travel to U.S. plants for trials.

Responsibilities

  • Perform test methods and procedures with little to no supervision.
  • Prepare formulations, run lab and process development experiments in a batch mixer.
  • Perform basic chemical, physical, and performance tests in various technology areas.
  • Test new and existing product formulas according to standard test protocols.
  • Document experiments and results in Laboratory notebooks with full traceability.
  • Report unsafe acts or conditions to supervisor and take interim steps to protect safety.

Job Description

The primary function of a Technician is to provide necessary technical support to the development and maintenance of advanced chemical formulations for self-level underlayment (SLU) in new construction, preservation, repair, or renovation of structures. The incumbent provides support to scientists and managers through the performance of industry-related technical and organizational activities.

  • Perform test methods and procedures with little to no supervision.
  • Prepare formulations, run lab and process development experiments in a batch mixer in development labs.
  • Perform basic chemical, physical, and performance tests in various technology areas.
  • Test new and existing product formulas according to standard test protocols, such as ASTM and other industry standards. Perform all the mechanical testing to support product development.
  • Must be able to lift bags and buckets of materials as a part of routine lab work.
  • Perform technology demonstrations and/or field evaluations with limited guidance.
  • Document experiments and results in Laboratory notebooks with full traceability.
  • Immediately reports unsafe acts or conditions to his/her supervisor and takes immediate interim steps to protect himself/herself and others from serious risk.

Qualifications:
Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or Associate/Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or a related science field is preferred.
  • Must have knowledge of common laboratory concepts, practices, and procedures
  • Minimum 3 years of experience with materials testing and coatings in a lab environment.
  • Experience related to cementitious products is a plus.
  • Willing to learn from scientists and senior teammates on lab work and product evaluation. Also, work with team members supporting development projects and other tasks as assigned.
  • Must be able to follow standard test protocols, such as ASTM and other industry standards.
  • Highly safety-oriented.
  • Willing and able to help maintain labs, chemicals, and storage areas in good order.
  • Able to lift bags and pails of materials as a part of routine lab work.
  • Able to travel to plants in the U.S. for trials and troubleshooting when requested.
