Job summary

Duke Health laboratory is seeking a Laboratory Support Supervisor for Inpatient Phlebotomy at Duke Raleigh Hospital. The role oversees phlebotomy, specimen management, courier services and send-out operations in a fast-paced hospital setting.

The successful candidate will supervise staff, provide technical guidance, help develop new procedures, and contribute to workflow optimization while ensuring timely and accurate patient results.

Qualifications

• Educational background generally equivalent to a high school education.
• 5 years of experience in specimen handling or related areas may be required.
• Phlebotomy certification required if the position is in a phlebotomy area.

Responsibilities

• Supervise subordinate personnel in non-analytic areas including phlebotomy, specimen management, courier services and send-out services.
• Provide technical assistance, instruction and consultation to students and employees.
• Participate in development of new procedures for collection, handling and transport of laboratory specimens.
• Evaluate and modify workflow patterns and prepare reports with recommendations.
• Recommend personnel actions such as hiring, appraisals, promotions, transfers and vacations.
• Perform other duties incidental to the work described.
