Job summary

National Railroad Safety Services, Inc. (NRSS) is seeking a Contractor in Charge (CIC) to oversee construction, maintenance and safety compliance for freight railroads and transit systems in Toledo, OH.

The CIC will lead safety briefings, ensure FRA rules compliance (49 CFR 214) and coordinate train movements with dispatchers. The role requires 2+ years in railroad maintenance roles, strong verbal/written skills, and willingness to travel 50–85% of the time.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
• Minimum of 2 years' railroad experience preferred (maintenance of way or TY&E).
• Strong computer, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to travel long-term (multi-month deployments) and pass training.

Responsibilities

• Oversee worksite safety and flagging as needed for railroad projects.
• Ensure compliance with FRA regulations during work near tracks.
• Monitor track conditions and coordinate train movements with dispatchers.
• Document briefings, incidents, logs, and forms for management/regulators.
• Enforce Railroad, State, and Federal policies and reporting.
