Job summary

National Railroad Safety Services, Inc. (NRSS) seeks a Contractor in Charge in Bend, OR to oversee railroad safety, construction, and compliance for freight railroads, transit systems, and state DOTs. The CIC will lead field safety, perform job briefings, and enforce all applicable policies.

The role requires travel 50% to 85% and strong communication, organizational, and safety-tracking skills. A valid driver’s license and a high school diploma are essential.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years' experience in a railroad company (maintenance of way or TY&E).
• Valid Driver's License.
• Strong computer, communication, and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• A safety-focused contractor responsible for overseeing worksite safety and flagging services as needed.
• Oversee construction, maintenance, and safety compliance for freight railroads, transit systems, and state DOTs.
• Conduct job briefings and ensure FRA 49 CFR 214 compliance during track-adjacent work.
• Monitor track conditions, approaching trains, and work activities to keep personnel clear of active tracks.
• Coordinate train movements with dispatchers and engineers using radio, phone, or electronic systems.
• Document activities, including briefings, incident reports, daily logs, and regulatory submissions.
