Job summary

National Railroad Safety Services, Inc. (NRSS) in Cleveland, OH is seeking a Contractor in Charge (CIC) to oversee construction, maintenance, and safety compliance for freight railroads, transit systems, state DOTs, and rail industry partners.

The CIC will lead safety-focused field operations, conduct job briefings, monitor track conditions and train movements, and ensure FRA compliance. Travel 50% to 85% is expected, with multi-month deployments as needed.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum of 2 years' experience in a railroad company, preferably in maintenance of way or TY&E.
• Valid Driver's License.
• Ability for long-term travel assignments.
• Strong computer, communication, and organizational skills.
• Effective verbal and written communication.

Responsibilities

• Oversee safety-focused worksite and provide flagging services as needed.
• Conduct job briefings and ensure compliance with FRA regulations (49 CFR 214).
• Monitor track conditions, approaching trains, and work activities to keep personnel safe.
• Coordinate train movements with dispatchers, engineers, and supervisors via radio, phone, or electronic systems.
• Document all activities, including briefings, incident reports, logs, and forms for management and regulatory agencies.
• Enforce Railroad, State, and Federal policies.
