Job summary

Benesch is seeking a dedicated Construction Inspector to support Railroad Infrastructure Safety Improvement projects in Western Connecticut and southeastern New York. The role is field-based, traveling between project sites with limited office time, and focuses on inspecting, documenting, and managing multiple infrastructure initiatives.

We value candidates with a BS in Civil/Construction Engineering, NY PE license preferred, and 5–10 years of NYSDOT experience.

Qualifications

• BS in Civil or Construction Engineering required.
• Preferred Licensed PE in New York state.
• 5–10 years of NYSDOT experience preferred.
• Field project experience required; railroad exposure a plus.
• Experience with ArcGIS, MicroStation, Geopak and/or AutoCAD desirable.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills; ability to work independently.

Responsibilities

• Review and assure the project supervisor of budget and schedule adequacy.
• Perform construction observation and follow project procedures.
• Maintain a field book per project procedures.
• Measure work and calculate pay item quantities.
• Prepare Inspector Daily Reports and other documentation.
• Report progress, issues, and remaining work to the supervisor.
• Review plans, specs, and submittals for assigned work; provide design support.
• Maintain company vehicles and equipment for the project.
