Job summary

Guardian Rail is seeking a Repair Technician in Ashdown, AR to inspect and repair railcars ensuring mechanical and operational integrity per industry standards. The role requires hands-on work, reading blueprints, and adherence to safety protocols.

You'll perform repairs with various tools and welding processes, work outdoors year-round, and participate in a sign-on/retention bonus program, with competitive pay depending on experience.

Qualifications

• High-school diploma or GED required.
• Prior experience as a Carman or Railcar Repair Technician is desirable.
• Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating manuals and blueprints.
• Basic mechanical knowledge and experience with hand and power tools.
• Enjoy outdoor, physical hands-on work.
• E7018 welding certification preferred.
• Ability to write routine reports and communicate effectively.
• Basic math skills.
• Reasoning ability to solve practical problems.
• Pass fitness-for-duty and drug/alcohol screenings.

Responsibilities

• Perform railcar repairs in compliance with FRA and AAR rules.
• Conduct pre and post inspection of all assigned railcars.
• Follow safety protocols including OSHA rules, regulations and procedures.
• Conform to in-house quality program per AAR and FRA rules.
• Keep work area clean and orderly per Guardian Rail and OSHA requirements.
• Follow written and verbal directions and work in a team environment.
• Understand railcar components and work orders.
• Assist in disassembly of damaged railcars.
• Perform repairs such as basic mechanics, grinding, painting and decaling.
• Set up and operate tools including air arc, plasma cutting, Huck and welding machines and oxyfuel operation.
• Perform interior railcar cleaning.
• Complete training to operate equipment such as forklift, crane, backhoe, etc.
• Meet AWS D15.1 welding requirements and internal welding training.
