Job summary

Harbor Rail Services is seeking a skilled Railcar Repairman in San Diego to inspect, repair, rebuild and service freight cars in compliance with AAR and FRA rules. The role requires welding, cutting torches, and operation of shop tools in a physically demanding setting. You will inspect rolling stock, replace defective components, and assist with doors and decks as needed.

A high school diploma is required; CDL is a plus. overtime and travel to multiple locations may be required.

Qualifications

• Education and experience: high school diploma or equivalent required; CDL is a plus.
• Fluency in reading, writing and speaking English; able to communicate professionally with stakeholders.
• Strong analytical and mathematical skills; ability to solve basic problems and follow procedures.

Responsibilities

• Perform inspections of railcars to identify defects and wear, ensuring compliance with industry standards and rules.
• Repair, rebuild and service freight cars using hand tools, power tools, torches and welding equipment.
• Replace defective components (trucks, couplers, air brake systems) and assist in door/deck operations as needed.
• Maintain safe work practices, wear required PPE, and report work performed on billing sheets.
• Be willing to work overtime and be on-call; travel to multiple locations may be required.
