Job summary

R.J. Corman Railroad Co Central KY Line is seeking a Mechanical Supervisor for Railcar Maintenance & Compliance in Lexington, KY.

The role oversees repairs on railroad railcars and passenger cars, assigns duties, and ensures adherence to safety and regulatory standards. Responsibilities include reviewing railcar alert reports, directing preventive maintenance, managing parts inventory, and training mechanical staff.

Qualifications

• 5-10 years of experience as railcar, diesel, automotive or aircraft mechanic or technical certifications required.
• Mechanical aptitude; understand mechanical principles and judge defects for repairs/replacements.
• Knowledge of railcar components required.
• Experience with FRA & AAR inspections required.
• Knowledge of power and hydraulic tools.
• Welding and oxy-acetylene torching experience.
• Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and federal/state regulations.
• Knowledge of federal railroad regulations.
• Must read and understand service and parts manuals.
• Must have a safe driving record.

Responsibilities

• Supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in repair and maintenance of railroad railcars and passenger cars.
• Reads management and railcar alert reports to determine repairs needed.
• Assigns duties based on worker abilities and repair requirements.
• Ensures adherence to procedures and government/ company standards.
• Directs preventive maintenance of railcar components (wheelsets, side frames, bolsters, lading, air brakes).
• Monitors stock of replacement parts and requisitions as needed.
• Examines shop equipment to verify safety and performance standards.
• Patrols work sites to observe methods and safety equipment; ensures compliance.
• Audits railcar billing and inspects equipment for compliance.
