Job summary

Brown & Root Industrial Services is seeking a Rail Yardmaster to direct and manage yard operations, including train movement, switching coordination, and crew communication. This role emphasizes safety, on-time performance, and regulatory compliance within a 24/7 yard environment.

You will supervise yard personnel, plan schedules, and maintain accurate records of movements and incidents while coordinating with maintenance and dispatch to optimize efficiency.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; degree in logistics/transportation is a plus.
• 3–5 years in railroad operations; at least 1–2 years in supervision.
• Knowledge of railroad operations, yard procedures, safety regulations.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficiency with train scheduling and yard management software.

Responsibilities

• Direct and coordinate movement of trains and railcars within the yard; assemble, disassemble, and switch cars.
• Assign and direct train crews to ensure safe and efficient movement.
• Monitor tracks, switches, signaling systems for safe operations.
• Plan yard activities to optimize rail traffic and prevent congestion.
• Supervise yard employees and schedule shifts.
• Maintain records of railcar movements and schedules; prepare reports for management.
• Coordinate with maintenance teams for timely repairs and problem resolution.
• Report incidents and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
