Job summary

Norfolk Southern Corporation is seeking an Electrical Apprentice Signal Trainee in Lafayette, IN. This hands-on role trains you to install, inspect, and maintain essential signal systems for safe rail operations.

You will join a seniority-based union, bid on positions, and may relocate during training. Expect extensive travel and on-call duties, with training lasting about 52 weeks before bidding for a Signal Maintainer position.

Qualifications

• You must be 18 years or older.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
• Must obtain a ClassA CDL within 90 days of hire (training provided).
• Must pass pre-employment FRA drug and alcohol screening.
• No disqualifying motor vehicle convictions as defined by law.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.

Responsibilities

• Install, inspect, and maintain signal systems and related equipment.
• Read and interpret electrical schematics and technical diagrams.
• Operate hand tools, electrical testing instruments, and heavy equipment.
• Accurately document inspections, repairs, and installations.
• Work outdoors in varying weather conditions and travel extensively during training.
