Job summary

Norfolk Southern Corp. is seeking applicants for the 2027 Electrical Apprentice Signal Trainee in Louisville, KY.

The program blends classroom instruction with on-the-job training to develop skilled signal maintenance technicians responsible for installing, inspecting, and maintaining critical railroad signaling systems. Candidates must meet the required conditions (18+, high school diploma/GED, valid license) and are expected to obtain a Class A CDL within 90 days of hire.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years or older.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
• Must obtain Class A CDL within 90 days of hire (training provided).
• Pass FRA drug and alcohol screening.
• Legally authorized to work in the U.S.

Responsibilities

• Perform FRA-required inspections and testing of signal systems and grade crossings.
• Install, maintain, and repair signal equipment including signal lights, switch machines, and electrical switch locks.
• Work on crossing warning devices and interlocking systems, PTС and cab signal systems.
• Read and interpret electrical schematics and technical diagrams.
• Operate hand tools, electrical testing instruments, and heavy equipment.
• Document inspections, repairs, and installations accurately.
• Work safely outdoors in varying weather conditions, including on-call shifts and weekends.
