Job summary

Norfolk Southern Corp. is seeking individuals for the Electrical Apprentice Signal Trainee program in Brownsville, PA. This hands-on, field-based role trains you to install and maintain critical railroad signal systems and participate in a structured classroom program over about 52 weeks.

You will bid on positions, may relocate during the bid process, and join the Brotherhood of Railroad Signalmen. On-call, travel up to 75% during training, and CDL within 90 days are required.

Qualifications

• This includes completing a technical certificate or associate degree in Electrical Technology or related field.
• OSHA 10/30, First Aid/CPR, TWIC card may be preferred.
• 1–2 years in electrical, mechanical, or field service work is preferred.
• Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude and teamwork capability.
• Proficiency with Excel, Word, Outlook and basic computer applications.

Responsibilities

• Attend structured classroom and field training spanning about 52 weeks.
• Learn to install, inspect, and maintain railroad signal systems.
• Bid for Signal Maintainer positions after apprenticeship.
• Perform FRA-required inspections and testing of signal systems.
• Document inspections, repairs, and installations accurately.
• Work on-call, nights, weekends, and travel extensively during training.
