Job summary

Interstate Waste Services is seeking a Director of Landfill Operations to lead our rail-served landfill in a fast-paced, safety‑driven environment. The role entails accountability for safety, environmental compliance, daily operations, asset reliability, and long‑range capacity planning, working with cross‑functional teams to ensure high performance and growth.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field; extensive leadership experience preferred.
Experience managing landfill/solid waste operations and a sizeable frontline workforce.
Proven ability to manage P&L, budgets, and forecasting.
Strong knowledge of OSHA, environmental compliance, and safety programs.

Responsibilities

Lead landfill operations with safety, quality, and financial performance in mind.
Coach and develop managers and supervisors; conduct performance discussions.
Build organizational depth through training, cross-training, and succession planning.
Ensure staffing, training, and work practices meet operational needs; partner with HR.
Maintain visible leadership across the operation and model core safety values.
Direct day-to-day landfill operations and coordinate waste flow, rail, and on-site activities.
Develop and implement programs to improve safety, productivity, and profitability.
Engage with suppliers, contractors, and key vendors to drive performance.
