Job summary

Metropolitan Council is seeking a Rail Safety Officer to provide technical leadership and ensure enforcement of rail safety standards across the Twin Cities region. The role carries authority to stop operation when unsafe conditions exist, protecting riders and staff.

You will investigate rail incidents, participate in safety committees, conduct audits, and coordinate corrective actions with multiple departments.

Qualifications

• High school diploma/GED with nine years of progressively responsible work experience.
• Associate degree with seven years of progressively responsible work experience.
• Bachelor's degree with five years of progressively responsible work experience.
• License Requirement: Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record

Responsibilities

• Investigates rail related accidents/incidents in collaboration with Supervisors and emergency personnel.
• Participates in safety review and Fire and Life Safety committees.
• Performs hazard analysis and develops corrective action plans with multiple departments.
• Manages the Workplace Accident Incident Reduction (AWAIR) program.
• Conducts safety audits and inspections to ensure compliance with OSHA and FRA standards.
• Interfaces with OSSO and participates in audits and other assignments.
