Job summary

The Metropolitan Council, the regional government for the Twin Cities area, is seeking a Rail Safety Officer to provide technical leadership and enforce safety standards across rail operations. This role has authority to halt unsafe operations and collaborates with multiple units to implement corrective actions.

The position requires a combination of education and years of progressively responsible work experience, along with strong verbal and written communication skills and familiarity with

Qualifications

• High school diploma/GED with 9 years of progressively responsible work experience.
• Associate degree with 7 years of progressively responsible work experience.
• Bachelor's degree with 5 years of progressively responsible work experience.

Responsibilities

• Investigate rail-related accidents/incidents in collaboration with Supervisors and emergency personnel.
• Participate in safety review and Fire and Life Safety committees.
• Conduct hazard analyses and coordinate corrective actions with Metro Transit departments.
• Lead safety audits and inspections to ensure compliance with OSHA, FRA, and internal procedures.
• Manage the AW AIR program and contribute to public safety outreach for LRT operations.
• Assist in emergency preparedness exercises and interface with OSSO and CJIS requirements.
