Job summary

National Railroad Safety Services, Inc. (NRSS) seeks a dedicated Contractor in Charge in Houston, TX to oversee safety-focused work within railroad rights-of-way and ensure compliance with FRA and other regulations.

The CIC will manage field operations across freight railroads, transit systems, state DOTs, and rail partners. Key duties include leading job briefings, monitoring track safety, coordinating with dispatchers, documenting activities, and enforcing all railroad, state, and federal

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years' experience in a railroad company, preferably in maintenance of way or TY&E departments.
• Valid Driver's License.
• High School Diploma or Equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Oversee worksite safety and provide flagging services as needed for railroad personnel.
• Conduct job briefings and ensure compliance with FRA regulations (49 CFR 214) during work near tracks.
• Monitor track conditions, approach trains, and activities to keep personnel safely clear of active tracks/equipment.
• Communicate with dispatchers, engineers, and supervisors via radio, phone, or electronic systems to coordinate train movements and permissions.
• Document all activities, including briefings, incident reports, daily logs, and forms for management/regulatory agencies.
• Enforce Railroad, State, and Federal policies.
