Job summary

Sperry Rail, Inc. in Shelton, CT is seeking a Design & Development Engineer to drive the creation and validation of next-generation rail inspection platforms.

You will own designs from concept through production, collaborating across engineering, production, and field operations. The role requires mechanical systems experience, ownership of projects, and the development of complete data packages, including CAD models, drawings, BOMs, and interface documents.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related field.
• 5+ years in product development and/or platform design.
• Ability to produce complete engineering documentation including drawings, BOMs, and specs for manufacturing and maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop mechanical, electrical, or systems-level hardware for rail inspection platforms.
• Produce complete technical data packages (TDPs) including 3D CAD models, 2D drawings, BOMs and interface docs.
• Apply DFM, DFA and DFI to ensure producibility and maintainability.
• Develop and maintain multi-level Bills of Materials in ERP/PDM systems.
• Participate in cross-functional design reviews with Production, Quality, Supply Chain, and field operations.
• Own designs through the full development lifecycle, including design reviews, risk mgmt, testing, and release.
