Job summary

Wabtec is seeking an Assistant Operator for its Rail Flaw Detection (RFD) team. You will operate rail inspection vehicles, assist the Chief Operator, and help ensure safe, accurate testing across extensive travel in the continental United States.

The role requires basic mechanical aptitude, a high school diploma or GED, and willingness to travel up to 60%. Prior railroad experience is a plus, and you must be able to work in a safety-conscious, team-oriented environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 1+ years of professional driving preferred.
• Experience with larger trucks and good driving habits.
• Basic hand tools and mechanical aptitude.
• Proficiency with Office 365 and Windows.
• Willing to travel up to ~60%.

Responsibilities

• Drive Rail Inspection Vehicles on the road and on the rail in support of rail flaw detection activities.
• Conduct DOT Vehicle Inspection Checks before and after each trip.
• Maintain accurate electronic driver logs, fuel reports, and other required documentation.
• Assist the Chief Operator during testing activities.
• Maintain the Rail Inspection Vehicle's test carriage and perform light repairs under supervision.
• Travel extensively within the continental United States.
