Job summary

Wabtec Corporation seeks an Assistant Operator to join the Rail Flaw Detection team, inspecting America's rail infrastructure as part of a two-person crew. You will assist the Chief Operator, manage track speeds, communicate upcoming features, and help flag defects during testing.

You must be prepared for extensive travel, operate Rail Inspection Vehicles, and repair or supervise the ultrasonic testing carriage under guidance. A safety-first mindset is essential.

Qualifications

  • Minimum high school diploma or GED.
  • One or more years of professional driver experience preferred.
  • Good driving habits and experience with larger trucks.
  • Some mechanical ability/knowledge of basic hand tools.
  • General computer skills, Office 365 and Microsoft Windows.
  • Willing to be away from home for an extended period (roughly 60% travel).
  • Previous railroad experience is a plus.
  • Must be a team player and willing to do what it takes to satisfy customers safely.

Responsibilities

  • Extensive travel within the continental United States. Road Warrior role requiring extended travel (months on end).
  • Conduct DOT Vehicle Inspection Checks before and after each trip.
  • Drive Rail Inspection Vehicles on road and rail in support of rail flaw detection activities.
  • Maintain accurate electronic driver logs, fuel reports, and other required documentation.
  • Assist the Chief Operator during testing activities.
  • Maintain the Rail Inspection Vehicle's test carriage.
  • Mark defective rails with identifying pens, spray paint, and flagging tape.
  • Light housekeeping and 5S housekeeping collaboration.
