Job summary

Stadler is seeking an Electrical Powertrain/Propulsion Engineer to design, develop, test and implement propulsion systems for trains. You will work with multidisciplinary teams to ensure safety, efficiency and regulatory compliance.

The role demands hands-on CAD work, propulsion simulations, and collaboration across software, mechanical, and purchasing teams. A degree in Electrical/Mechatronics and 3–5 years of relevant experience are required, with travel as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Electrical/Mechatronics engineering.
  • 3–5 years of railway/defense experience.
  • Knowledge of electrical drive technology or rail vehicle industry.
  • Excellent communication and technical writing skills.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and teamwork.
  • English proficiency; German is a plus.
  • Experience in electrical/mechanical design.
  • Experience with schematic software, MS Office, PLM/ECN systems (E3, SmarTeam).
  • MATLAB experience is a plus.
  • Willingness to travel for supplier visits and testing on vehicles.

Responsibilities

  • Conceptual design and layout of electrical drive systems for passenger rail.
  • Design and refine propulsion system concepts using CAD and engineering tools.
  • Test and analyze propulsion systems for performance, reliability, and safety.
  • Perform energy consumption and trip duration calculations and simulations.
  • Support bids and tender preparations with propulsion simulations.
  • Stay updated on propulsion tech and apply innovative solutions.
  • Manage propulsion projects from concept to delivery within budget.
  • Collaborate with engineers, technicians and stakeholders across disciplines.
  • Prepare technical reports, specs, and documentation for propulsion systems.
