Job summary

STV Incorporated in the United States seeks a Rail Vehicle Propulsion Engineer with extensive propulsion system experience to join the Rail Vehicle Engineering group. You will prepare propulsion specifications, evaluate carbuilder designs for transit agencies, and review drawings and test reports from multiple manufacturers.

The role requires at least 10 years in propulsion for rail/transit, a BS in Electrical Engineering, and strong communication to work with multidisciplinary teams.

Qualifications

  • ABET accredited four-year Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 10 years of propulsion systems experience in transit/railroad.
  • Familiarity with AC traction motors, power converters and HV equipment.
  • Experience with auxiliary power converters is a plus.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT), PE or international equivalent preferred.
  • Strong communication and ability to work with multidisciplinary staff.
  • Clear, concise engineering documentation in English.
  • Travel up to ~25% (some international).

Responsibilities

  • Preparation of equipment performance design criteria and engineering technical specifications.
  • Preparation and review of test specifications and reports.
  • Witness equipment and vehicle testing and First Article Inspections.
  • Review and evaluation of carbuilder and propulsion supplier design packages.
  • Assist with technical and cost proposals for new work.
  • Assist with change orders for existing work.
  • Knowledge of EN, IEC, UL, ANSI, APTA, IEEE standards.
  • Interface with railway clients and STV departments.
