Job summary

Impellam Group seeks a Rail Operations Contractor in Houston for a 6-month assignment, onsite five days a week. You will track rail fleet movements, coordinate with railroads, and resolve service issues while generating shipping documents and supporting EDI billing.

Responsibilities include data analysis, reporting, and collaboration with internal stakeholders to optimize rail performance and fleet management across multiple locations.

Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of rail systems and how freight moves from point A to port B and C.
• Ability to download and import data into Excel and create pivot tables.

Responsibilities

• Perform daily tracking and tracing of rail fleet equipment, maintaining data in rail tracking systems.
• Ensure shipment information is populated within tracking systems and cars are allocated appropriately.
• Communicate with railroads to resolve service issues including First Mile and Last Mile.
• Generate bills of lading, diversions and reships as needed.
• Assist with managing EDI billing issues as they arise.
• Coordinate with Rail Coordinators to manage rail fleet at storage facilities.
• Develop and manage rail reports for rail pipeline and regulatory testing.
• Assist with supply management of empty and loaded railcars to/from all locations.
• Analyze rail movement data to build metrics, identify cost drivers, trends, and drive optimization.
• Troubleshoot delayed rail cars by researching status updates and billing.

Job description

This role requires working on a collaborative team with strong communication skills, attention to detail and to interface with external rail vendors as well as internal stakeholders to identify and respond to rail trends, fleet metrics, and future operational requirements. The scope of accountability for the Rail team includes all bulk liquids (Crude Oil and other renewable/non-hydrocarbon feedstocks, Refined Products, Specialty Products, NGLs/LPGs etc.)

Key responsibilities

• Perform daily tracking and tracing of rail fleet equipment, maintaining and documenting data in rail tracking system and railroad systems.
• Ensure shipment information is populated within tracking systems and cars are allocated appropriately.
• Daily proactive communication with railroads to resolve all types of service issues including First Mile and Last Mile local service.
• Generate bills of lading, diversions and or reships as needed.
• Assist with managing EDI billing issues as they arise.
• Assist Rail Operations to manage, investigate and resolve data discrepancies within tracking systems and adding comments to jeopardized in transit shipments.
• Coordinate with Rail Coordinators in managing rail fleet at storage facilities.
• Develop and manage rail reports for managing rail pipeline and regulatory testing and working with railroads on systemic resolution.
• Assist with Supply management of empty and loaded railcars to/from all locations.
• Analysis and Query of rail movement data to build metrics, identify operational cost drivers, trends, and drive optimization improvements.
• Troubleshoot delayed rail cars by researching past status updates, calling the railroad, and researching billing.
• Maintain a status log on rail cars to track issues, delays, and actions taken to rectify situations.

Requirements - education & experience

• Strong knowledge of rail systems and how the process works of getting freight from point A to port B and C.
• Knowledge of what a Rail Station or Rail Code is.
• Ability to download and import data into Excel and create pivot tables.
• Experience with rail coordination or similar logistics coordination role.

Required skills

• SAP experience.
• Experience with Transmetrics TMS or similar rail tracking systems.

6-month contract assignment (potential for extension or conversion to long-term). 5 days onsite.
