Norfolk Southern Corporation is seeking a Train Conductor to join its operations team in Mobile, AL. You will start on the extra board, remain on-call 24/7, and bid for a regular assignment as you gain seniority.

Training lasts about 20 weeks, with lodging, meal stipends, and travel reimbursement provided during the initial weeks at the NS Training Center. Conductor Trainees earn a base on-shift rate with overtime, and first-year conductors average around $70,000 annually.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years or older.
• Must hold a valid driver’s license and have reliable transportation.
• Ability to report to work within 90 minutes.
• Must pass pre-employment FRA drug and alcohol screening.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.
• Must join a union within 60 days after completing training.

Responsibilities

• Build and inspect trains, railcars, and equipment for safe operation.
• Operate remote control locomotives and perform coupling, align drawbars, hand brakes, and ride railcars.
• Communicate effectively with crews, dispatchers, and yard controllers.
• Maintain accurate documentation and comply with FRA and company safety regulations.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
