Job summary

Norfolk Southern Corp. is seeking a Train Conductor Trainee who will start on the extra board and advance to a regular assignment based on seniority. The role requires being on-call 24/7 with short-notice availability and a valid driver's license for transportation needs.

No prior railroad experience is required as training is provided. Conductor Trainees will undergo approximately 20 weeks of on-the-job and classroom training, with relocation-related provisions at certain locations.

Qualifications

• Seniority-based role requiring progression from extra board to a regular assignment.
• Must be available to work on-call, 24/7 with as little as 90 minutes' notice.
• Must hold a valid driver’s license and have reliable transportation.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.

Responsibilities

• Build and inspect trains, railcars, and equipment for safe operation.
• Operate remote control locomotives and perform coupling, alignment of drawbars, hand brakes, and riding railcars.
• Communicate effectively with crews, dispatchers, and yard controllers.
• Maintain accurate documentation and comply with FRA and company safety regulations.
