Job summary

Wabtec Corporation is seeking a production worker at its Chicago location to assemble metal components such as draft gears, slack adjusters and handbrakes on the shop floor, following blueprints and ensuring quality output.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, basic math and reading skills, and the ability to stand for long periods while lifting up to 50 pounds. Training and safety programs are provided.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED, or 1–3 months related experience and/or training.
• Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedures.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
• Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.

Responsibilities

• Position parts according to knowledge of unit being assembled or following blueprints.
• Fastens parts together with bolts, screws, speed clips, rivets, or other fasteners.
• Removes small quantities of metal with hand files and scrapers to produce close fit between parts.
• Operates drill presses, punch presses, or riveting machines to assist in assembly operation.
• Disassembles draft gears, slack adjusters, handbrakes for salvage of parts.
• Ensures areas are maintained according to 5S principles.
• Performs all duties of Material Handler or Laborer.
