Job summary

HDR is seeking a Rail Bridge Design EIT/Coordinator to apply structural engineering and detailing techniques in bridge design for transportation projects across the HDR Transportation Business Group. You will help shape designs for bridge types including steel plate girder and prestressed concrete to support safe, efficient mobility.

The role requires hands-on experience with MicroStation and familiarity with AREMA guidelines.

Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience with bridge software and structural analysis.
  • Active participant of HDR's employee-owned culture.
  • Willingness to travel and work in other locations occasionally.

Responsibilities

  • Apply structural engineering and detailing techniques in the development of bridge designs.
  • Work on projects that include bridge and box culvert design for highway and railway projects.
  • Perform structural load calculations and assist with geometric layout and quantity development.
  • Select standard bridge engineering procedures and develop structural details using specialized software.
  • Participate in bridge inspection and assist with load calculations and quantity development.
  • Perform other duties as needed.

In the role of Rail Bridge Design EIT/Coordinator, we’ll count on you to:



  • Apply structural engineering and detailing techniques in the development of bridge designs

  • Work on projects that typically include bridge (steel plate girder, prestress concrete, segmental and cable) box culvert, and interchange design for highway and railway projects

  • Perform structural load calculations and assist with geometric layout and quantity development

  • Select standard bridge engineering/design procedures, and develop structural details using specialized software

  • Participate in bridge inspection, perform structural load calculations and assist with geometric layout and quantity development

  • Perform other duties as needed


Preferred Qualifications


  • Master's degree in Structural Engineering

  • Candidates without their EIT will be placed into a Design Coordinator job code and will be expected to obtain their EIT for career progression


Familiarity with engineering software packages such as: LEAP Bridge Enterprise, FB-MultiPier, LPile, AASHTOWare BrR, midas Civil, MDX, SAP2000, CSiBridge, ADINA, RM Bridge, spColumn, LUSAS, STLBridgeLRFD, or STLBridge


General knowledge of structural analysis and computer modeling (LARSA, RISA or SAP2000) strongly preferred


Railroad structures design experience and familiarity and experience with AREMA design guidelines are very desireable, but not required


Must be adept with working with virtual team members across the country


Experience in bridge/structural design


Willingness to travel and work in other locations occasionally may be required


Preference given to local candidates
