Job summary

HDR, Inc. is seeking a Bridge Designer/EIT to contribute to design and detailing of bridges across a variety of structures in the HDR Transportation Business Group.

You will apply structural engineering techniques, perform load calculations, and develop details using industry-standard software. The role supports projects from design through construction, with opportunities for professional growth within HDR’s employee-owned culture.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in structural engineering or related field.
• Experience with structural design software packages listed.
• Familiarity with Bluebeam Revu.
• EIT certificate; may be placed into a Design Coordinator role if not yet obtained.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Apply structural engineering and detailing techniques in bridge design.
• Work on projects including steel plate girder, prestressed concrete, segmental and cable bridges, box culverts, and interchanges.
• Perform structural load calculations and assist with layout and quantity development.
• Develop structural details using specialized software.
• Participate in bridge inspection and related calculations.
• Perform other duties as needed.

In the role of Bridge Designer/EIT, we'll count on you to:

• Apply structural engineering and detailing techniques in the development of bridge designs
• Work on projects that typically include bridge (steel plate girder, prestress concrete, segmental and cable) box culvert, and interchange design for highway and railway projects
• Perform structural load calculations and assist with geometric layout and quantity development
• Select standard bridge engineering/design procedures, and develop structural details using specialized software
• Participate in bridge inspection, perform structural load calculations and assist with geometric layout and quantity development
• Perform other duties as needed

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in Structural Engineering
• Engineer in Training (EIT) certificate
• Candidates without their EIT will be placed into a Design Coordinator job code and will be expected to obtain their EIT for career progression

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree
• Familiarity with Bluebeam Revu and knowledge of engineering software packages such as: LEAP Bridge Enterprise, FB-MultiPier, LPile, AASHTOWare BrR, midas Civil, CSiBridge, RM Bridge, spColumn, STLBridgeLRFD, or STLBridge.
• Bentley OpenBridge Modeler and/or Autodesk Infraworks and Civil3d
• Strong understanding and hands-on use of computers for structural layout and design
• Good communication skills and willing to work in a team environment
• An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
