Job summary

HDR is a leading engineering firm delivering transportation infrastructure across the United States. The Rail Bridge Design EIT/Coordinator role focuses on applying advanced structural engineering techniques to bridge projects for highway and rail systems.

You will collaborate with virtual teams nationwide and contribute to safe, resilient, and efficient mobility solutions. Preferred candidates include a Master’s in Structural Engineering or EIT certification, with hands-on experience in bridge

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required; Engineer in Training (EIT) encouraged.
  • Hands-on experience with MicroStation, InRoads and GEOPAK-route design.
  • Strong interest in railroad design and active participation in employee-owned culture.

Responsibilities

  • Apply structural engineering and detailing techniques in bridge design.
  • Work on highway/railway project bridge designs including steel, concrete and box culvert elements.
  • Perform structural load calculations and assist with layout and quantity development.
  • Select standard engineering procedures and develop details using specialized software.
  • Participate in bridge inspection and assist with layout and quantity development.
  • Perform other duties as needed.

Rail Bridge Design EIT/Coordinator

We'll count on you to:

  • Apply structural engineering and detailing techniques in the development of bridge designs
  • Work on projects that typically include bridge (steel plate girder, prestress concrete, segmental and cable) box culvert, and interchange design for highway and railway projects
  • Perform structural load calculations and assist with geometric layout and quantity development
  • Select standard bridge engineering/design procedures, and develop structural details using specialized software
  • Participate in bridge inspection, perform structural load calculations and assist with geometric layout and quantity development
  • Perform other duties as needed
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Structural Engineering
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certificate
  • Candidates without their EIT will be placed into a Design Coordinator job code and will be expected to obtain their EIT for career progression
  • Familiarity with engineering software packages such as: LEAP Bridge Enterprise, FB-MultiPier, LPile, AASHTOWare BrR, midas Civil, MDX, SAP2000, CSiBridge, ADINA, RM Bridge, spColumn, LUSAS, STLBridgeLRFD, or STLBridge
  • General knowledge of structural analysis and computer modeling (LARSA, RISA or SAP2000) strongly preferred
  • Railroad structures design experience and familiarity and experience with AREMA design guidelines are very desireable, but not required
  • Must be adept with working with virtual team members across the country
  • Experience in bridge/structural design
  • Willingness to travel and work in other locations occasionally may be required
  • Preference given to local candidates
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Hands-on experience with MicroStation, InRoads and GEOPAK-route design
  • MS Office Applications experience
  • Strong interest in railroad design
