Description The Radiology Resource Assistant (RRA) position description incorporates the core responsibilities of the job. It is recognized other related duties not specifically mentioned might also be performed, and not all responsibilities may be carried out depending on operational needs. As a member of the Radiology Team and under the supervision and direction of a registered technologist, registered nurse and/or a radiologist, the Radiology Resource Assistant will assist in the delivery of patient care to pediatric radiology patients in a safe and organized manner.
The RRA will be responsible to assist technologists, RNs, and radiologists before, during, and after radiology exams. The RRA transports patients (inpatient, outpatient and ED). The RRA coordinates patient flow, communicates with patients about status, schedule issues, and/or delays. The RRA answers phones and takes messages for technologists, RNs, and/or radiologists. In addition, the RRA provides assistance to providers requesting radiology imaging CD uploads into the PACS system. The RRA supports technologists in stocking rooms, cleaning, checking supplies for expiration, preparing patients for their radiology exam, and expediting the turnover of imaging rooms.

Qualifications

Qualifications Minimum Education
High School Diploma or GED (Required)

Minimum Work Experience
1 year At least 1 year of experience in a patient care setting. Student or volunteer experience may be considered. (Required)

Required Skills/Knowledge
Possess good oral and written communication skills.
Possess good organizational skills and pays attention to detail.
Demonstrate professionalism during all patient, staff, and family interactions.
Able to maintain composure and focus on assigned tasks in a high stress environment.

Required Licenses and Certifications
Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) CPR certification must be earned prior to the RRA working independently. Upon Hire (Required)

Functional Accountabilities
Equipment and Imaging Room Management

  • Assists technologists with maintaining pre-set levels of unit supplies and materials in storage and patient care areas.
  • Assists with reviewing supplies in storage areas to remove expired items.
  • Assists in setting up imaging rooms to ensure quick room turnover for technologists.
  • Ensures cleanliness of imaging equipment in conjunction with technologists.
Communication
  • Speaks to patients, families, visitors, staff and Hospital personnel using kind, friendly and tactful communications.
  • Provides updates to patients regarding scheduling delays; apologizes and keeps family informed.
  • Frequently checks front desks for pending patients and communicates information to technologists, RNs, and/or radiologists.
  • Responds to questions and requests in a helpful manner.
  • Reports patient/family concern/complaint to technologist, RN, manager or radiologist immediately.
  • Assists with patient wayfinding.
  • Accompanies outpatients from waiting areas to imaging rooms.
  • Provides gowns and instructs patients on how to prepare for their imaging exam.
  • Answers the telephone, takes messages, and triages phone calls to support technologists, RNs, and/or radiologists.
Transport
  • Transport radiology inpatients, outpatients, and ED patients, utilizing appropriate identification.
  • Assists with lifting and transferring patients from wheelchair or stretcher to imaging table and vice versa; applies correct body mechanics and principles of safety.
Clerical
  • Delivers interoffice mail and other items.
  • Unpacks supplies and assists with stocking rooms.
  • Uploads CDs into the PACS system when requested.
Other Functions
  • Contributes to the achievement of established departmental goals and objectives and adheres to departmental policies, procedures, quality standards, and safety standards; comply with governmental and accreditation regulations.
  • Accepts direction from technologists, RNs, radiologists and/or managers,
  • Secures personal items and valuables in assigned locker.
  • Remains within the department assigned shift. Notifies lead technologist or manager when leaving the unit for unit/patient care related errands
  • Uses downtime productively.
  • Attends mandatory in-service/educational programs to learn about new products, equipment, skills.
