Job summary

OrthoAtlanta is seeking a Referral Coordinator to manage referrals, verify insurance, obtain pre-authorizations, and coordinate care with specialists. This role supports accurate EMR data entry and clear patient communication to ensure timely access to orthopedic services.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum 2 years of experience in a medical office or clinical environment.
• Knowledge of insurance plans and verification procedures.
• Customer service experience in a patient-facing role.
• Familiarity with medical terminology preferred.
• Experience using Epic EMR system preferred.
• Strong organizational, multitasking, and time management skills.

Responsibilities

• Prioritize and schedule referrals based on urgency, ensuring timely follow-up and seamless handoffs to specialists and providers.
• Accurately collect and enter demographic, insurance, and clinical information into the EMR to support referral processes.
• Verify insurance benefits, contact payers for pre-authorization, and communicate clinical details when necessary to establish medical necessity.
• Explain referral expectations, co-pays, or deductibles, and answer questions to ensure patients are informed and prepared.
• Build strong relationships with referral offices, community providers, and internal teams to support smooth transitions of care.
• Serve as a go-to contact for staff regarding authorizations, procedural codes, and insurance requirements.
