Job summary

Atrium Health in Winston-Salem is seeking a Medical Coder II to code hospital-based professional services accurately and on time. You will review medical records, assign and sequence diagnosis and procedure codes, and enter codes and modifiers into the electronic system.

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of ICD/CPT and payer regulations; collaborate with the Revenue Cycle team to resolve documentation, coding, and billing issues. Certification as CPC or CCS is required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Two years of medical coding experience in a similar environment.
• Eligible for internal promotion after achieving Coder Level II criteria for six months.
• Active national coding certification: CPC or CCS.

Responsibilities

• Code hospital-based professional services accurately and on time.
• Review medical record documentation to assign and sequence diagnosis and procedure codes.
• Enter diagnosis codes, professional service codes, modifiers, and facility service/charge codes.
• Assign and record modifiers (GC, NO, NDU) per Teaching Physician Rules.
• Maintain knowledge of ICD, CPT, internal codes, and payer regulations.
• Collaborate with Revenue Cycle team and Compliance Analysts to resolve issues.
• Educate physicians to support documentation for maximal coding accuracy.
• Resolve charges and claim denials in WakeOne coding queues.
