Job summary

Qualifications

• Education: High School diploma or equivalent; Associate degree preferred.
• Experience: Five (5) years professional fee coding experience.
• Certifications: CPC and specialty certification related to assigned specialty.
• Maintain knowledge of governmental and commercial payer guidelines.
• Proficient with word processing, spreadsheets and databases.
• Data entry and mathematical skills required.

Responsibilities

• Abstracts/codes for assigned providers/division per medical records documentation.
• Uses coding software and resources to determine correct codes.
• Communicates billing issues to supervisor and participates in improvement meetings.
• Follows departmental policies for charge corrections.
• Participates in coding educational opportunities and training.
• Provides feedback to providers to resolve coding concerns.
• Resolves pre-billing edits and identifies training needs.
• Mentors and assists in training other coders and new staff.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
