Job summary

Colchester Hospital University NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Clerical Officer for its Radiology department. The role supports reception, clerical and booking services for patients, with emphasis on polite contact and accurate IT use.

Flexibility to cover shifts and work as part of a team is essential. You will rotate between duties, greet patients, schedule appointments, manage inquiries and ensure timely communications with other departments.

Qualifications

• Experience in medical administration or NHS environment preferred.
• Polite and empathetic telephone manner with patients and public.
• Ability to work under pressure with strong organisational skills.
• Accurate IT skills and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Rotate between reception and booking appointments as per rota.
• Greet patients and visitors, provide courteous service and refer queries as needed.
• Book Outpatient/GP appointments in urgency order using the system.
• Communicate with patients and external departments by phone and in person.
• Escalate capacity concerns to improve wait times and throughput.
• Re-book patients who miss or cancel appointments according to policy.
