Job summary

Mercyhealth is seeking a Radiologic Technologist for night shifts in Rockford, IL. The role includes performing diagnostic radiography, portable, fluoroscopic and C-arm exams, while adhering to ALARA and safety standards.

You will review orders, educate patients, and assist radiologists, with responsibilities spanning image capture, documentation, and student supervision. Requires ARRT registration and Illinois/DNS/ WI licenses as applicable, CPR/BLS, and 1–3 years experience preferred; new

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Radiologic Technology.
  • ARRT Radiography registration required.
  • IEMA-DNS radiography accreditation required if working in Illinois.
  • WI-DSPS radiographer license required if working in Wisconsin.
  • Approved CPR or BLS certification within 90 days.
  • 1–3 years experience preferred; new graduates considered.

Responsibilities

  • Performs diagnostic radiographic, portable, c-arm and fluoroscopic procedures.
  • Reviews clinical history and ensures appropriate orders; consults radiologist as needed.
  • Provides patient education.
  • Operates imaging equipment and accessories to perform procedures.
  • Positions patient for optimal image quality and comfort.
  • Initiates basic life support when necessary.
  • Follows ALARA and radiation safety principles.
  • Documents XR/FL procedures in EMR and PACS.

OVERVIEW

This role performs different types of X-ray and imaging procedures, including portable, fluoroscopic, and C-arm exams, while safely positioning and caring for patients. They operate imaging equipment, review images for quality, follow radiation safety rules, document procedures, and assist radiologists with exams. They also educate patients and help train students and other staff.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Performs diagnostic radiographic, portable, c-arm and fluoroscopic procedures.

  • Reviews patients' clinical history ensuring that appropriate order placed and labs are within range as needed - reviewing with radiologist as necessary

  • Provides patient education.

  • Selects and operates imaging equipment, image capture devices and accessories to successfully perform procedures.

  • Positions patient to best demonstrate anatomic area of interest, respecting patient ability and comfort.

  • Initiates basic life support when necessary.

  • Determines radiographic technique and exposure factors.

  • Follows ALARA principles through accurate exposure factors and radiographic techniques.

  • Applies principles of radiation protection to minimize exposure to patient, self, and others.

  • Reports and documents XR safety incidents/ adverse events per protocol.

  • Processes images and reviews for proper identification and quality control.

  • Uses radiology information systems (including PACS), completes all required records and reports, submits images and data for physician review and interpretation.

  • Assist with medical record/image sharing as necessary.

  • Documents all information pertinent to XR/FL procedure in electronic medical record to include medication reconciliation

  • Provides practical instruction for radiography students and partners.

  • Applies principles of patient safety during procedures, including assisting and transporting patients.

  • Operates mobile radiologic equipment in operating room, emergency room, or at patient's bedside.

  • Assists radiologist in fluoroscopic and special x-ray examinations.

  • Prepares contrast media and assists in administration.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Graduate of an accredited School of Radiologic Technology

One (1) to Three (3) years experience preferred

Will consider new graduates

CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE

ARRT Radiography registration required

IEMA-DNS radiography accreditation required if working in Illinois

WI-DSPS radiographer license required if working in Wisconsin

Approved CPR or BLS certification within 90 days

Works independently with limited direct supervision.

SUPERVISES

Provides clinical supervision of allied health students and radiology aides.

PAY RANGE:

$27.17 - $40.75
