Job summary

Mercyhealth is seeking an experienced Radiologic Technologist to provide advanced diagnostic imaging services, administer contrast media, and support imaging quality and patient comfort in a hospital setting.

You will collaborate with radiologists, mentor students, and lead clinical duties while maintaining safety and efficient workflow across shifts.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited radiography program.
  • Two to four years of experience as a radiologic technologist; hospital experience preferred.
  • ARRT registration in Radiography; CT credential within a year of hire.

  • Corroborates patient clinical history with procedure and ensures information is documented for radiologist.

Job description

OVERVIEW

Provide advanced diagnostic imaging services while ensuring patient safety, comfort, and high-quality care throughout the imaging process. This role performs specialized imaging procedures, administers contrast media, collaborates with radiologists and healthcare providers, provides clinical leadership and education, and serves as a resource for students and team members while maintaining excellence in patient care and imaging quality.

Shift: 9am-9:30pm

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Maintains active status in the modalities in which they practice.
  • Assists the department coordinator by providing clinical leadership, completes projects, advanced level clinical duties and regular assignments as requested.
  • Is competent in all exams performed within the assigned modalities.
  • Corroborates patient clinical history with procedure, ensuring information is documented and available for use by the radiologist.
  • Prepares the patient for procedures, providing instructions to obtain desired results, gain cooperation, and minimize anxiety.
  • Selects and operates imaging equipment, image capture devices, and accessories to successfully perform procedures.
  • Positions patient to best demonstrate anatomic area of interest, respecting patient ability and comfort; immobilizes patient as necessary.
  • Practices aseptic technique as necessary.
  • Prepares and administers contrast media as appropriate to procedures performed; starts and maintains intravenous access.
  • Initiates basic life support action when necessary.
  • Provides patient education.
  • Provides input for supply and equipment decisions, maintains control of inventory and supplies for assigned area.
  • Provides practical instruction for students and partners.
  • Observes universal protocol, standard precautions and appropriate patient identifiers.
  • Applies principles of patient safety during all aspects of procedures, including assisting and transporting patients.
  • Other duties, tasks as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Graduate of an accredited radiography program.

Two to four years of experience as a technologist as a Radiographer is required. Experience in a hospital environment preferred.

CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE
  • ARRT registered in Radiography required; the CT credential is required within a year of hire.
  • IEMA-DNS radiography accreditation required if working in Illinois.
  • WI-DSPS radiographer license required if working in Wisconsin. BLS/CPR required within 90 days of hire.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Passing the Driver's License Check and/or Credit Check (for those positions requiring).

Passing the WI Caregiver Background Check and/or IL Health Care Workers Background Check.

Must be able to follow written/oral instructions.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Experience in working with radiologic technologists, radiologists and support staff in a multimodality department.
  • Proficiency in mentoring employees and providing corrective action appropriately.
  • Experience in obtaining departmental accreditation.
  • Ability to communicate in a friendly and effective manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to foster excellent teamwork in a radiology department.
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to work independently.
  • Read/comprehend written and verbal instructions.
  • Basic PC skills.
  • Manage stress appropriately.
  • Make decisions under pressure and handle multiple priorities.
  • Manage anger/fear/hostility/violence of others appropriately.
WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles and risk of radiation. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Occupational Exposure: Category A - All partners in the specified job classification have occupational exposure.

Pay range: $35.85 - $53.77
