Job Overview
Performs imaging / therapeutic services and patient care to support WVU Medicine's radiology department in providing diagnostic information for patient treatment.
Minimum Qualifications
Education, Certification, and/or Licensure
For West Virginia, Ohio, and Maryland:
- Completion of an Accredited Radiography School
- Registered (or registry eligible) by ARRT in Radiography; if eligible, must pass boards within 6 months of hire
- Radiologic Technologist certification through the West Virginia Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Technology Board or applicable state
- Basic Life Support certification within 30 days of hire
- West Virginia state criminal background check, and Federal check if applicable
For Pennsylvania:
- Completion of an Accredited Radiography School
- Registered (or registry eligible) by ARRT in Radiography; if eligible, must pass boards within one year of hire
- Basic Life Support certification within 30 days of hire
- State and Federal background checks as applicable
Core Duties and Responsibilities
- Rotate in all diagnostic areas to develop technical skills
- Perform imaging procedures based on patient assessment and protocols
- Produce high-quality images using imaging equipment
- Select appropriate exposure factors to optimize image quality and minimize radiation
- Minimize radiation exposure to patients and staff
- Maintain expertise in anatomy, physiology, and pathology related to imaging
- Assess patient needs and provide support for comfort and hygiene
- Prepare contrast agents and sterile trays for procedures
- Educate patients about radiographic procedures
- Collaborate with healthcare team members
- Participate in problem solving and quality improvement initiatives
- Adhere to ethical standards and department policies
- Report equipment failures and complete required training and competencies
- Position patients accurately and coordinate daily workflow
- Supervise and instruct radiology students in clinical settings
Physical and Working Environment
- Differentiate shades of gray on monitors
- Stand, walk, and lift up to 50 pounds
- Wear lead aprons and operate imaging equipment safely
- Work in environments with minimal radiation exposure and potential contact with airborne particles and bodily fluids
Skills and Abilities
- Positive interaction with patients and staff
- Ability to prioritize and handle multiple situations
- Adaptability in positioning and equipment manipulation
