Job summary

Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center is seeking a Radiologic Technologist to perform diagnostic imaging on inmates under supervision, while maintaining equipment safety, documenting procedures, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. Work is in Amarillo’s Clements Unit, Monday–Friday, with up to 50% travel. Compensation includes hourly pay with a formal pay plan and benefits as per TTUHSC policies.

Qualifications

  • Completion of an approved two-year program in radiologic technology.
  • Current and unrestricted ARRT licensure and Texas Medical Board (TMB) licensure.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from AHA or Red Cross.

Responsibilities

  • Perform diagnostic imaging exams such as X-rays.
  • Maintain and calibrate radiology equipment for safety and image quality.
  • Document imaging procedures and maintain records.
  • Communicate with inmates, medical staff, and security personnel.
  • Follow infection control protocols and safety standards.
  • Provide imaging support in emergencies.
  • Adhere to radiology regulations and dose monitoring.
  • Position patients and operate equipment in secure environments.

Radiologic Technologist
Position Description

This position is responsible for performing essential radiological procedures and for handling the necessary details associated with those procedures; i.e. preparing patients for procedures, processing film, and maintaining records and reports. Work is performed under general supervision. Work is performed independently within established guidelines and procedures. Work is performed in usual clinic conditions; requires a high degree of contact with patients and physicians.

Major/Essential Functions
  • Perform diagnostic imaging exams such as X-rays on inmates as ordered by licensed providers.
  • Maintain and calibrate radiology equipment to ensure operational safety and image quality.
  • Accurately document imaging procedures and maintain imaging records in compliance with policies.
  • Communicate effectively with inmates, medical staff, and security personnel to ensure safe and efficient imaging services.
  • Follow all infection control protocols and safety standards during imaging procedures.
  • Provide support in emergency situations requiring imaging services.
  • Maintain compliance with state and federal radiology regulations, including radiation dose monitoring.
  • Physically maneuver equipment and position inmates for imaging in constrained and secure environments.

Required Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent; completion of an approved two-year program in radiological technology. Current and unrestricted American Registry of Radiological Technology, Medical Radiologic Technologist licensure through the Texas Medical Board (TMB), and Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross.

Visa Information

TTUHSC, at its sole discretion, may initiate new H-1B I-129 visa petitions in accordance with the directive issued by Governor Abbott. Approval from the Texas Workforce Commission is required. On a limited, case-by-case basis, the institution may also sponsor eligible individuals for change-of-status or change-of-employer petitions for qualifying positions. TTUHSC will not pay the $100,000 fee, if applicable.
