Role Overview
The X-ray Technologist is responsible for obtaining diagnostic radiographic examinations.
Responsibilities
- Produce diagnostic radiographic examinations by positioning patients, providing immobilization devices, shielding, and selecting proper technical factors based on individual patient needs. Operate equipment as required for specific procedures.
- Use consistent and appropriate techniques to gather relevant information from medical records, significant others, and healthcare providers to prepare protocols for scanning and ensure patient safety.
- Follow ALARA principles to restrict radiation beam through proper collimation, ensuring safe care for all patients.
- Perform portable x-ray examinations in patient rooms, operating rooms, and emergency rooms.
- Follow operational procedures to accurately identify patient images with name and MRN#, and correctly mark the side of the patient taken.
- Process and reconstruct all images using available methods.
- Maintain an orderly x-ray room, including ordering and maintaining supplies as directed by the department head.
- Prepare radiopaque contrast media and assist providers in administering these to patients.
- Perform administrative duties such as scheduling appointments, instructing patients, maintaining records, and reception duties.
- Assist patients with mobility needs related to their exams.
- Responsible for scheduled shifts including holidays and weekends, with overtime and on-call as needed.
- Adhere to policies related to Employee ID, Standards of Behavior, Attendance, and Punctuality.
- Greet patients utilizing A.I.D.E.T. standards upon arrival.
- Perform daily clerical duties using systems like EPIC, PACS, Teletracking, and others.
- Modify and deliver care based on patient needs, considering age, culture, language, and impairments.
- Adhere to organizational competencies and perform QA activities.
- Other duties and projects as assigned.
- Lift a minimum of 25 lbs., push/pull 50 lbs., and stand for at least 6 hours per day.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED equivalent.
- Completion of an AMA-approved Radiologic Technology program.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Proficient in computer skills, including Microsoft Office or Google Suite.
Licenses and Certifications
- American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Certification.
- Diagnostic Radiography License.
- AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
