Job summary

Sandia National Laboratories is seeking a Cleared Manager for R&D Science and Engineering to direct a team of Surety System Engineers. You will lead staff development, set strategic priorities, and coordinate cross-disciplinary work to deliver reliable product prototyping and qualification.

The role requires a DOE Q clearance, strong leadership, and the ability to travel about 25% (including Amarillo, TX). Onsite work is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or science with 8+ years related experience.
• At least 3 years of leadership experience, with 2+ years in the ND enterprise.
• Active DOE Q clearance or equivalent (e.g., DOD Top Secret).
• Ability to obtain Sigma 14 and Sigma 15 access.
• Experience leading R&D engineering teams on complex projects.

Responsibilities

• Lead, develop, empower, and mentor staff through hiring, development, and performance management.
• Guide staff across teams, integrating multidisciplinary technology areas for mission success.
• Foster a defect-prevention culture emphasizing collaboration and risk mitigation.
• Lead department strategy, set priorities, and communicate with customers and leadership.
• Assess work quality and staff performance to align with mission needs.
• Participate in cross-cutting efforts and corporate strategic initiatives.
• Coordinate work across departments to support mission delivery at Sandia.
• Travel to support coordination and partnerships; approximate 25% travel to Amarillo, TX.
