Job summary

MCC is seeking an R&D Research Scientist specializing in label printing and packaging to lead research and development efforts from concept to commercialization. The role focuses on inks, coatings, adhesives, primers, substrates, and related materials to deliver sustainable, high-performance label solutions.

You will collaborate with operations, quality, regulatory, procurement, sales, and suppliers to translate technical ideas into scalable products while advancing sustainability and regulatory

Qualifications

• Experience in R&D, product development, or applied research within printing, labels, packaging, coatings, inks, or related materials.
• Strong understanding of material interactions, surface energy, adhesion, curing mechanisms, and end-use performance.
• Ability to design experiments, analyze data, validate hypotheses, and translate findings into development plans.
• Hands-on laboratory experience with formulation, sample prep, prototype development, and test methods.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, collaboration, and project management skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead R&D projects from concept through feasibility, prototype development, validation, scale-up, and commercialization.
• Identify and develop new materials, formulations, substrates, print technologies, and converting solutions.
• Design and execute experiments, including DOE, to understand material interactions and optimize performance.
• Develop and optimize inks, coatings, adhesives, primers, varnishes, and substrate combinations for labels.
• Build understanding of adhesion, cure, surface energy, coating performance, print quality, and recyclability.
• Create prototypes, lab samples, pilot trials, and production plans for new concepts.
• Analyze data, summarize findings, and recommend next steps for development and commercialization.
• Develop and validate laboratory test methods for evaluating label materials and performance.
• Collaborate with suppliers, universities, and internal teams to source ideas and assess technologies.
• Ensure solutions are scalable, compliant, cost-effective, and aligned with customer needs.
